Submission Guidelines

Bloodroot Literary Magazine publishes original poetry, short stories and creative nonfiction. Please use the following guidelines when submitting manuscripts.

1. Manuscripts should be typewritten or computer-printed on white, 8-1/2" X 11" paper. Prose should be double-spaced. Poems may be single-spaced. Send three to five poems, ten lines to a maximum of two pages per poem. We consider free verse and sonnets only. We do not accept translations. We accept only literary prose, no genre fiction such as sci-fi, gothic, juvenile fiction, or sexually explicit fiction. Word limit: up to 5,000 words. Please include cover letter, short bio, and a SASE.
We accept hard copies only. Please include name, address, telephone number and email address on all manuscripts.
Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard if you wish to be notified of manuscript receipt.
Please do not send previously published material or material that is currently under consideration by another magazine or periodical. Please do not send work that is under consideration by Bloodroot to another magazine or periodical.
Do not submit more than once in a reading period.
Do not submit in more than one genre in a reading period.
Our reporting time is approximately six to eight weeks.
Manuscripts should be mailed to the address below.
A SASE is required for response to manuscripts. Manuscripts cannot be returned.

We read April 1 through September 1. All work submitted to Bloodroot is considered for publication in Bloodroot Literary Magazine provided guidelines are followed. We pay in copies. Copyright: Bloodroot holds first serial rights for material that we publish. The copyright automatically reverts to the author upon publication. We do not require that material be copyrighted prior to submission.
